“Exhibit within the church and before the world the exemplary moral authority of sympathy, witness and service after the example of Jesus Christ.”
Earl s. johnson, jr. | The Presbyterian Deacon: An Essential Guide
Each Presbyterian Church is governed by a board called a “Session.” This group is made up of Elders who are elected by the members of their congregation. Presbyterian elders are both ordained and elected. Each session represents the members of that congregation and are called to discern and represent the will of Christ as they govern.
The Deacons of a congregation are called to acts of care, compassion, and service. The Deacons of FPCS support numerous non-profit agencies in both our local community and Presbytery through our financial contributions. In addition, we care for members of our congregation and foster community through our efforts & service.
Within our own congregation, we support our Christian Education Committee by donating the youth curriculum and materials for adult Bible Study. We also provide a $100 scholarship to help with the enrollment fee at Camp Johnsonburg for our children & youth to attend during the summer.
In an effort to support our mission of partnering with our community, the Deacons also offer each youth in our congregation a $50 mini-grant yearly to enable them to partner with another outreach agency.
